Privacy Policy — Air Quality Index

The short version

No accounts. There is nothing to sign into, and we hold no user records.
No analytics or tracking. No usage analytics, no crash or diagnostic reporting, no advertising identifiers, and no third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
No ads. The app contains no advertising of any kind.
Your location stays on your device, with one exception you control: when you ask for a forecast at a point, that coordinate is sent to the forecast provider to answer the request. It is never sent to us.
We receive nothing about you unless you choose to send feedback, which is the only feature that transmits anything you typed.

Location

Air Quality Index asks for “when in use” location access. It is optional — the app works without it, and you can decline or revoke it at any time in system settings.

When you grant it, your location is used for exactly two things:

To center the map on where you are, and to draw your position on it.
To look up the air quality and forecast for where you are, when you tap Air quality near me.

The one case where a coordinate leaves your device. Point forecasts are produced by Open-Meteo, so answering “what is the air quality here?” requires sending here to them. That applies whether you tapped and held an arbitrary spot on the map or asked for your own location. The coordinate is sent to Open-Meteo and to nobody else — it is not sent to Apparent Logic, is not stored on our servers, and is not attached to any identifier. No other feature transmits your location.

Your location history is never recorded, on the device or off it. The app keeps no trail of where you have been.

What the app fetches, and from whom

Air Quality Index renders public data published by scientific agencies. Your device requests that data directly, which means each provider below necessarily sees the network request — including the IP address it came from, as with visiting any website. None of them receive an account, a device identifier, or anything else that identifies you, and apart from the point-forecast case above, none of them receive your location.

air-quality-api.open-meteo.com Point forecasts. This is the one endpoint that receives a coordinate, and only for the point you asked about.

Apple’s CloudKit may collect technical information under Apple’s privacy policy. We do not access or use any of it. The records we publish there contain public air quality data only — no user data.

Feedback you choose to send

The app has a Send Feedback form. It is the only feature that transmits anything you typed, and it only runs when you fill it in and submit it. When you do, the following is sent to a feedback endpoint operated by Apparent Logic:

Your message.
Your email address, only if you choose to enter one — it is optional, and is used solely to reply to you.
Basic technical context to help us reproduce the problem: device hardware revision, platform, operating system version, and app version.

That is all. No location, no identifiers, and nothing about how you used the app. If you never open the feedback form, nothing is ever sent.

What is stored on your device

Downloaded forecast overlays and map data, cached so previously viewed maps work offline.
Your preferences: which layers are on, the map position, and similar settings.
Records of the public air-quality data the app has fetched.

This stays on your device. Deleting the app removes it. None of it is transmitted to us.

What we do not do

We do not collect, store, or sell personal information.
We do not track which features you use, or monitor performance or usage patterns.
We do not collect crash reports, error logs, or diagnostics.
We do not use advertising identifiers, ad networks, or any advertising.
We do not use third-party analytics, attribution, or tracking SDKs.
We do not build profiles, and we do not share data with data brokers.
We do not receive data from App Store Connect analytics.

Children’s privacy

The app collects no personal information and has no accounts, social features, or user-generated content, so it is suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.

Your rights

Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to look up, export, or delete on request. If you have sent feedback and would like the message and any email address removed, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the app changes. Updates are posted on this page with a revised date above. Material changes will be reflected here before the behavior they describe ships.
