Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
How do I enable Phone Pattern Blocker?
Go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification on your iPhone, then toggle on Phone Pattern Blocker. After creating patterns in the app, your blocking rules are automatically applied to incoming calls.
How do blocking patterns work?
A pattern like (212) 555-XXXX blocks all calls from numbers matching that format. Each X is a wildcard that represents any single digit (0-9), so that example pattern would block 10,000 numbers ranging from (212) 555-0000 through (212) 555-9999.
What does "X" mean in a pattern?
X is a wildcard that matches any single digit. The more X's in your pattern, the more numbers it covers. For example, (212) 5XX-XXXX would block all numbers starting with (212) 5, covering 1,000,000 possible numbers.
Blocking & Filtering
Why is a blocked number still getting through?
Calls from people in your Contacts are never blocked, even if their number matches a blocking pattern. This is a built-in iOS safety feature that cannot be overridden. Also make sure the Phone Pattern Blocker extension is enabled in Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification.
What happens when a call is blocked?
Blocked calls are silently sent to voicemail. The caller will hear normal ringing and can leave a voicemail. The call may still appear in your recent calls list, but your phone will not ring or display a notification.
Can I allow certain numbers within a blocked pattern?
Yes. Use the allow list (whitelist) feature to create exception patterns. For example, you can block all of (212) 555-XXXX but add an allow pattern for (212) 555-12XX, and those 100 numbers will ring through normally.
How does this work with "Silence Unknown Callers"?
Phone Pattern Blocker and Silence Unknown Callers are independent iOS features that work well together. Phone Pattern Blocker actively blocks specific number patterns, while Silence Unknown Callers silences calls from numbers not in your contacts, recent calls, or Siri suggestions. You can use both for maximum protection.
Privacy & Security
Does the app access my calls or contacts?
No. Phone Pattern Blocker has no access to your calls, call history, contacts, or messages. It simply provides iOS with a list of numbers to block through Apple's CallKit framework. All blocking is handled by iOS itself.
Is my data sent anywhere?
No. All blocking patterns and generated number lists are stored locally on your device. Nothing is ever sent to our servers or any third party. The app contains no ads, no analytics, and no tracking.
What happens to my data if I delete the app?
All data is permanently removed when you delete the app, including your blocking patterns, allow list entries, and the generated number lists used by CallKit.
Storage & Performance
How many numbers can I block?
The free version supports blocking up to 5 million numbers. Phone Pattern Blocker Pro increases this to 1 billion numbers. The actual limit also depends on your device's available storage, since each blocked number takes a small amount of space in the CallKit directory.
Will this slow down my phone?
No. Once your patterns are synced, call blocking is handled entirely by iOS at the system level through CallKit's directory extension. There is no noticeable impact on phone performance or battery life.
Why does the app need storage space?
Each blocking pattern generates a list of individual phone numbers that iOS uses for matching. For example, a pattern with 4 wildcards (like 555-12XX-XX) generates up to 10,000 individual numbers. These are stored in the CallKit directory extension on your device. The app will warn you if storage is running low.
Premium
What's the difference between Free and Pro?
Both versions include all features: pattern creation, editing, allow lists, and import/export. The only difference is the blocking limit. The free version supports up to 5 million blocked numbers, while Pro supports up to 1 billion.
Is this a subscription?
No. Phone Pattern Blocker Pro is a one-time purchase. Pay once, use forever, with all future updates included. No recurring charges.
How do I restore a previous purchase?
Open the app and navigate to the upgrade screen. Tap Restore Purchases. If the purchase is associated with your Apple ID, it will be restored automatically at no additional charge. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase.
Troubleshooting
The extension keeps becoming disabled
This can happen after iOS updates or if your device runs low on storage. Go to Settings > Phone > Call Blocking & Identification and toggle Phone Pattern Blocker back on. Then open the app and sync your patterns again. If the problem persists, try restarting your iPhone.
Sync is taking a long time
Large patterns generate many phone numbers. A pattern with 4 wildcards creates 10,000 numbers, and multiple patterns multiply this. The sync process runs in the background and will complete on its own. You can continue using your phone normally while it syncs.
"Not enough storage" error
The app needs at least 2 GB of free space on your device to sync patterns. Try freeing up storage by removing unused apps or media. You can also reduce the number of wildcard digits in your patterns to generate fewer numbers, or remove patterns you no longer need.
